Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Summit 2020 has been CANCELLED
Welcome to Area 9’s Summit 2020 – June 19-20, 2020! You can learn all of the details about Area 9’s signature education event for handbell musicians of all skill levels and ages. This year, we are challenging you to pick your adventure as we all make the journey to our own personal summit in Waco, TX. Located between Austin and the Dallas/Fort Worth metro, Waco brings the heart of Texas to life with world-class museums, local eateries, and outdoor adventures.
At Summit 2020, you will have the chance to participate in educational and engaging classes; enjoy performances by some of the best ensembles and soloists in the country; and browse and shop through exhibit booths from handbell publishers, retailers, manufacturers, and more. In your downtime, you can visit the amazing local shops in downtown Waco, stroll through the historic district with amazing views of the Brazos River, enjoy a quiet night with family and friends at Cameron Park, or relax by the pool.
To help you reach your personal summit in 2020, we have divided Summit 2020 into three paths – Adventurers for small ensembles/not-a-complete choir groups, and soloists ringing less than three octaves; Explorers for ensembles or choirs ringing three or more octaves; and Sherpas for those wanting to complete Level 1 portions of the Handbell Musicians Certification program. You’ll get more information about each division on the following pages.
There is a lot of information available here on our website, and we’ll be updating these pages with more news as Summit 2020 draws near. However, if we forgot something or did not answer a question you have, please let us know.

Music Theory 1
Prerequisite: This class is not a music fundamentals course, but a music theory course. It assumes students already have a solid working knowledge of basic treble- and bass-clef reading and standard time signatures/note values; an understanding of what sharps and flats do; and, ideally, a general navigation of the notes of the piano keyboard.
